LAW DETERMINED TO END SEASON ON A HIGH AT BRANDS
National 1000cc Superstock class rookie Mason Law maintained his fifth place in the championship standings with two solid points’ scoring finishes [8th & 10th] over the weekend – during the penultimate round of this year’s series at Oulton Park.
The Stauff Connect Academy ZX-10RR Kawasaki pilot was openly frustrated and self critical after a brace of top ten finishes, especially having won at Oulton earlier in the season. But as he explained afterwards, a test this week should further boost his confidence going into the final round of the championship next month at Brands Hatch.
The goal there: to push towards a podium finish and hold fast his fifth place in the championship standings, which would be an outstanding achievement for a series rookie riding a 1000cc machine for the first time in his career.
Mason explained: “It was another low points’ scoring weekend, which is frustrating as I didn’t arrive at Oulton to finish eighth and tenth and I’m very irritated – I have to be honest. I have to say sorry to the team and the boys who work hard behind the scenes, as we all deserved more than this, even though the conditions were tricky.
I have a test this week which I’m very much looking forward to. I need to get back to enjoying riding the bike and have some fun, but in saying that I did feel better on the bike at Oulton compared to the week before at Silverstone. It was never going to be easy starting on the inside of the fourth row for race two.
The track was drying out, but my grid spot was still soaking wet through, which made it hard to get my ZX-10RR off the line. The choice of tyre was a dry set-up, and it was the correct one, but the guys on full wets around me had the confidence early on to chuck it into turn one and two and I got swamped a little in those early exchanges.
I’m now looking forward to finishing the year strong at Brands. It’s hard to believe the season is almost over but I’ve enjoyed riding with the GR Motosport guys, so let’s wait and see what happens for 2018. It’s a long winter so a good strong weekend at Brands is imperative for me to keep the motivation high for the future and my name to the fore.”
