Donington Park World Superbikes was a hugely successful event with Mason Law hitting all the targets set by his Team WD-40 Superbike.

The World Superbike at Donington with its highs and lows in racing still achieved all GR Motosport’s ambitions for the event. As part of our race program and rider development we had set Mason targets of improving his lap times in the dry by a huge two seconds.

Fridays very busy schedule of 3 sessions set the tone when in the first session the wet conditions were a great leveler and confidence booster when Mason finished a very strong 18th place. The second session in mixed conditions was reasonable but the Third session in the dry is where things really started to shine. The Team had put together a great bike and Mason seem to revel in the situation getting faster and fast again ending the session in 18th on a BSB spec bike with 250 revs less than we would normally use. Mason had already achieved all our goals setting PB after PB to end the day 2 seconds faster than he had ever gone before….

Saturday started well in FP4 when Mason continued his form pushing us into Q2 where unfortunately is all went wrong. On a very hot lap Mason just asked a little too much from his ZX10RR and down they both went live on TV.. at first things did not look so good but with a quick visit to the med center and some treatment on a wrist and ankle injury we though he could race.

A valiant effort by Mason and his crew where Mason was able to start the second race and lap faster again was sadly curtailed when the wrist injury just became too much for the Essex youngster and forced him out!

Mason Law: “Donington Park World Superbike was something special! It was a great experience for me and my team. The idea was to always use this opportunity to gain track and set-up time whilst collecting valuable data.

We took this time to make some changes to my ZX10rr and how I rider her, honestly every change we made was an improvement which doesn’t always happen that way. Friday was great hitting all our targets but
qualifying and the races didn’t go to plan however I personally have learnt tones from the world’s best riders and I can’t help but look back at the weekend positively.

I am now looking forward to carrying this momentum to Snetterton on the 15th-17th June.

From a racing perspective I repeat what I said about taking a knife to a gun fight, although I did not realize that the knife would be blunted by losing 250 revs from our normal BSB limit. Mason and the Team did a brilliant job in building lap times consistently 2 seconds faster than he had done before which in my mind is job done ! – Ok in racing or any competition we are all greedy and our past achievements soon after they are made become old hat and you push on again. Mason did just this and sadly fell, but we learned a tremendous amount allowing him to push on to faster times in the race a great sign for the next BSB at Snetterton.
